Japanese weather officials are warning that a large and powerful typhoon may approach western Japan in the middle of the Bon summer holidays.

The Meteorological Agency forecasts that Typhoon Krosa will come close to the Ogasawara Islands in the Pacific Ocean over the weekend, bringing strong winds and rough seas.

The agency says the typhoon will move northward while retaining strength, and it will approach western Japan’s Pacific coast around Wednesday next week.

Millions of people travel by air, land or sea during the traditional holidays in mid-August.

The agency is urging people to follow the latest weather updates on the typhoon.
