About 70 Pakistani residents in Japan have held a rally to protest India’s decision to withdraw autonomy for areas under its control in the disputed Kashmir region.

They gathered at the Pakistani Embassy in Tokyo on Thursday. India stripped the state of Jammu and Kashmir of special autonomy status last week.

Protesters said India’s move has led to curfews in the areas that prevent Muslims worshiping at mosques.

One protester said he cannot contact relatives because Internet and phone connections are cut off.

Another claimed Indian authorities are using violence against women and children.

The protesters said they want the international community to help resolve the issue.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Japan Imtiaz Ahmad said he wants the Japanese public to understand what is happening in Kashmir. He said India must be prevented from violating the rights of people in the region.
